Powertel Boss Challenges Elon Musk’s Starlink to a Speed Test in Fiery Video
A top executive at Powertel Communications (Pvt) Ltd has caused a stir on Zimbabwean social media with a bold challenge to Elon Musk’s Starlink, daring the global tech giant to a high-stakes internet speed test!
In a viral video that’s making waves across the country, the Powertel boss throws down the gauntlet, confidently stating, “The speed for Starlink goes up to 250 Mbps, but ours can go up to a gigabyte per second!” With fire in his voice, he invites Starlink to bring its kit, while he brings his fibre for a showdown, declaring: “We’ll show the whole world how reliable fibre is. We are not shy—come for a speed test, even tomorrow or today!”
The executive didn’t stop there. In an unexpected twist, he compared Powertel’s lightning-fast speeds to the luxury sports car Bugatti, proudly proclaiming that Powertel’s fibre service leaves Starlink in the dust. He further emphasized their edge in accessibility: “If someone in Kambuzuma wants to be connected, we can do it, because of the distribution poles we already have.”
This fiery speech comes as a response to Starlink’s recent entry into Zimbabwe, which has shaken up the country’s internet service provider (ISP) industry. For years, Zimbabweans have struggled with high data costs and patchy service, but with Starlink’s satellite-powered connectivity, local providers are feeling the pressure.
Powertel, a subsidiary of the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), isn’t backing down. Licensed as a Class ‘A’ Internet Access Provider by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), the company operates an optic fibre backbone network that powers cutting-edge services, including its Internet of Things (IoT) offerings like Powertrack Fleet Management and Transformer Monitoring Solutions.
With this new challenge, Powertel is taking the fight to the stars—literally—aiming to prove that fibre is still the king of speed and reliability. Will Elon Musk accept the challenge? Zimbabwe is waiting with bated breath!
