Power Outage Interrupts Mnangagwa’s SONA — Chamisa Reacts – A sudden power outage plunged the Parliament of Zimbabwe into darkness on Tuesday, forcing President Emmerson Mnangagwa to complete his State of the Nation Address (SONA) using torchlight.
An aide held a flashlight over the President’s notes for the final ten minutes of the address. Moments after he concluded, the lights came back on — prompting embarrassment and renewed scrutiny of the country’s persistent power challenges.

It’s not the first time such disruptions have occurred; last year’s national budget presentation also suffered a blackout.
In a post on X, opposition leader Nelson Chamisa mocked the incident, writing:
“TRABABLAS in Parliament… TRABABLAS in the economy… TRABABLAS everywhere. Failure consumes even its author!”
The Speaker of Parliament later apologised, promising an investigation into the cause of the outage.
