Pope Francis’s Funeral Scheduled for Saturday

The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis’s funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM local time (09:00 BST, 08:00 GMT).

Images have been released showing the Pope in an open coffin, dressed in a red robe, wearing the papal mitre, and holding a rosary. His body will be taken to St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday morning, where it will be available for the public to pay their respects until the burial.

The Pope’s passing has caused widespread sorrow among Catholics around the world, with reactions coming from places like South Sudan, Argentina, Poland, and the Philippines.

Many world leaders have confirmed they will attend the funeral. Argentinian President Javier Milei announced his presence shortly after the Pope’s death.

US President Donald Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, will travel to Vatican City, and French President Emmanuel Macron has also confirmed his attendance as reported by BBC News.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to be there as well, according to a presidential source.

The funeral will take place outdoors in front of St. Peter’s Basilica, led by Giovanni Battista Re, the dean of the College of Cardinals. At the end of the service, he will offer a final prayer and the Pope’s body will then be taken to St. Mary Major for burial.
