Police Shortage Crisis: One Officer for Every 1,143 Citizens

Zimbabwe is facing a serious policing crisis, with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) operating with only about 14,000 officers to serve a population of nearly 16 million people.
This translates to roughly one police officer for every 1,143 citizens, leaving officers overstretched and struggling to effectively maintain law and order across the country.
The shortage has reportedly affected response times, patrol coverage, and overall public safety, while also lowering morale among officers who are dealing with heavy workloads and limited resources.
Experts warn that without urgent intervention, including increased recruitment and better support for officers, the situation could worsen.
