Police Release Names of Masvingo-Beitbridge Crash Victims

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of seven victims who perished in a horrific road traffic accident that occurred on 12 September 2025 at the 179-kilometre peg along the Masvingo–Beitbridge Road.

ZRP National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the tragic development, saying the deceased were identified by their next of kin.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the victims of the Masvingo–Beitbridge Road accident have been positively identified.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families during this difficult time,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

The victims were named as follows:

  1. Leopold Mudiwakure (43), a male adult of Waterfalls, Harare (Toyota Aqua driver),
  2. Fortune Eddington Chitsaka (21), a male adult of Waterfalls, Harare,
  3. Sithembiso Bhegedhe, a female adult of Waterfalls, Harare,
  4. Danson Chidewu, a male adult of Unit J, Seke, Chitungwiza (Toyota Dyna truck driver),
  5. Martin Mazhata (41), a male adult of Vembe Village, Chief Chaminuka, Gweru,
  6. Takudzwa Masanganise (35), a male adult of Zowa Farm, Zvimba.

Police also revealed that one of the victims, a male adult who was a passenger in the Toyota Dyna truck, remains unidentified.

His body is currently at Masvingo Provincial Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem and formal identification.

Commissioner Nyathi further urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the country’s highways, warning that reckless driving continues to cost lives.

“As police, we are deeply concerned about the loss of lives on our roads.

“We once again urge drivers to strictly adhere to road rules and regulations, avoid speeding, and put safety first,” he said.
