Police Officer Sentenced for Killing His Wife in Buhera

A police officer from Buhera has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing his wife. Cuthbert Mupfuki, 37, from Nechiwowe Village, was found guilty of stabbing Brenda Manyara several times with a knife on October 10 of last year.
The attack happened at their home. Witnesses heard screams, and Constance Gwemba, a niece of Brenda, tried to get into the locked bedroom. She looked through a window and saw Mupfuki attacking his wife. He accused her of cheating with another man, Joseph Murwisi.
After the attack, Mupfuki dragged Brenda’s body into the hallway and opened the door. He told Gwemba that he would rather go to jail than stay with a cheating wife and then ran away. Brenda was found on the floor, badly injured, and later died from her wounds.
Later that evening, Mupfuki called another villager, Chipo Madidi, asking her to gather people at the homestead, where he admitted to killing Manyara due to her alleged infidelity, he noted that he knew what he was doing and would have done it a long time ago.
Mupfuki’s daughter, Barbra Mupfuki, also testified, saying she heard her mother being beaten and later saw blood in the dining room. She said Mupfuki came out and told her he was going to turn himself in to the police.
During the trial, Judge Isaac Muzenda noted that Mupfuki had given 30 cattle to Brenda’s family as compensation. Witnesses also described an earlier encounter where Mupfuki attacked Murwisi with a log, but Murwisi managed to escape.
This case has shocked the community, highlighting the serious issue of domestic violence and the dangers of jealousy. Mupfuki, who served in the Zimbabwe Republic Police under Support Unit, will serve his sentence, reminding everyone of the severe consequences of such violent actions.
