Police Officer Charged with Murder After Attempting to Cut Man’s Beard with a Knife, Causing Injuries which Led to his Death

Bhekimpilo Ncube, a 35-year-old police officer assigned to the Chikukwa Police Base in Chimanimani, has been arraigned on a murder charge following a series of disturbing events that unfolded on February 25 and 26, 2026.
Authorities reported that Ncube was notified about violent behavior exhibited by 34-year-old Godman Mtimba in the area.
On February 26, the police officer apprehended Mtimba and brought him to the Chikukwa Business Centre, where he was reportedly consuming alcohol.
During this encounter, Ncube allegedly attempted to remove the suspect’s beard using a knife, resulting in significant injuries to Mtimba’s chin and cheek.
The victim was subsequently transported to Mutambara Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Following the incident, Ncube voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement officials. He is currently in custody as further court proceedings are scheduled.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring justice is served in accordance with the law.
