Police clears air on Chirundu road ZUPCO accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the death toll of today’s fatal road accident at the 101 km peg along Harare-Chirundu Road between Banket and Chinhoyi near Dondo River Bridge.

In a Twitter post, the ZRP confirmed that four (4) people died in the crash while 67 people were seriously injured.

It is reported the first ZUPCO bus tried to overtake a haulage truck on its way to Banket whilst the other ZUPCO bus was proceeding in the opposite direction.

Both drivers are confirmed to have died on the spot and were trapped under the buses while three passengers died and were taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.

Passengers who sustained serious injuries are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
