This illicit operation ran out of a building on Matthews Meyiwa Road, where authorities seized a trove of evidence, including application forms, identity document copies, and electronic devices.
Col Robert Netshiunda confirmed the arrest of three suspects, hinting that more arrests could follow.
“The suspects exploited the identities of South African women to marry undocumented foreign nationals, allowing these fake husbands to secure citizenship,” he revealed. Police Bust Fake Marriage Scheme in Durban
Further investigations uncovered a colluding home affairs official, deepening the scandal. Two male suspects face fraud charges, while a female suspect, who attempted to destroy evidence by shredding documents, is charged with defeating the ends of justice. The trio is set to appear in the Durban magistrate’s court on Wednesday.
