Police Arrest 4 in Connection with US$129 Robbery in Harare

Zimbabwe has been grappling with a surge in armed robberies, with the latest incident involving the theft of US$129,111.00 cash from Meru Service Station in Kuwadzana, Harare.

This brazen heist has sparked widespread concern, but the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has swiftly responded, arresting four suspects in connection with the robbery.

The ZRP has been working tirelessly to combat the rising tide of armed robberies in the country. Commissioner Paul Nyathi, ZRP spokesperson, emphasized the police’s commitment to tackling this menace.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that there is no going back in the fight against armed robbery cases in the country,” he stated.

The recent arrests are a testament to the ZRP’s efforts. Willard Zvinerukwa (48), Ernest Manzunzu (45), Ashwin Mukondwa (30), and Bornface Masora (31) were taken into custody after a thorough investigation.

The police recovered US$16,240 cash, a wardrobe, a kitchen unit, a television, kitchen utensils, and a cellphone.

The suspects’ modus operandi involved sharing the loot and using the proceeds to purchase goods and lend money to others.

Bornface Masora had an outstanding warrant of arrest for an armed robbery case in Karoi, highlighting the interconnected nature of these crimes.

Commissioner Nyathi commended the public for providing crucial information that led to the arrest of the suspects. He urged anyone with information on outstanding suspects to report to their nearest police station.

As Zimbabwe continues to grapple with the challenges of armed robbery, the ZRP’s swift response and commitment to justice offer a beacon of hope.

With the police’s crack teams on high alert, the public can be assured that efforts are being made to combat this scourge.
