President Emmerson Mnangagwa met the former  Chelsea and Ivory Coast football legend Didier Drogba in Rwanda on Monday.

The Zimbabwean president is in Rwanda, gracing the Africa Green Revolution Forum 2022, an annual nature-conservative summit, in Kigali.

After meeting with the  former Chelsea legend, President Mnangagwa took to social media  to share a few snaps where he described Drogba as a true African hero.


“A true African hero – thank you my brother.”




Drogba is also attending the Africa Green Revolution Forum 2022 in his capacity as the President of the Didier Drogba Foundation where he is set to deliver keynote remarks between September 6th- 9th.

The Ivory Coast international retired from football at 40 after a colourful stint at Stamford Bridge.
Didier Drogba retired at Chelsea having scored 164 goals from 381 appearances.

During his  spell with the Blues, Drogba played integral to Chelsea’s four premier league cups and the Champions League in 2012.

He also clinched four FA Cups and three League Cup victories during his time in west London.

In announcing his retirement, Drogba penned an emotional message where he thanked everyone who played a vital role in his successful football career.

“When I think of the last 20 years of my professional career, looking at this picture can’t make me more proud of what I’ve achieved as a player but most importantly how this journey has shaped me as a man.

“If anyone tells you your dreams are too big, just say thank you and work harder and smarter to turn them into reality. #alwaysbelieve.

“I wanna thank all the players, managers, teams and fans that I have met and made this journey one of a kind!!!

“Also a huuuuge thank you and love to my family, my personal team for supporting me all my career during the ups and downs no matter what.

“Looking forward to the next chapter and hoping God will bless me as much as he did for my football career.”
