“Pay for my heartache”, Harare woman demands compensation from ex-boyfriend

HARARE – In a bold quest for justice, a Harare woman seeks $100 monthly compensation from her ex-boyfriend, alleging emotional distress, betrayal, and heartache suffered during their toxic two-year relationship.
Alleging a history of emotional and physical abuse, Shamiso Zuze has filed a case against her former partner, Givemore Gonye at the Harare Civil Court.
The applicant testified in court that Gonye regularly brought other women into her home, demonstrating a pattern of disrespect that led to multiple confrontations.
“I repeatedly witnessed him bringing different women to my house and one time, I caught him in the act which led to a physical altercation between me and other girlfriend”.
“He disrespected me deeply and I believe I deserve compensation for the emotional pain he caused,” said Zuze.
Gonye responded by accusing Zuze of financially exploiting him and hindering their breakup, while dismissing her infidelity claims as false.
“Her financial demands have been unreasonable and she’s made it clear that she relies solely on me for income.”
The respondent alleged Zuze’s infidelity and claimed she persisted in the relationship solely due to financial gains from him.
“She has been preventing me from ending our relationship, fabricating false accusations that I brought women to her home. In reality, she was the one engaging in infidelity with multiple men and only remained in the relationship because of the financial support I provided,”said Gonye.
Magistrate Judith Taruvinga issued a reciprocal peace order after hearing arguments from both Zuze and Gonye, directing them to refrain from further disputes and maintain a peaceful relationship.
