Outrage as Hwange Teacher Allegedly Bites 23 Students
A teacher from Hwange, Oscar Ndlovu, has ignited outrage and disbelief after allegedly biting 23 students at Neluswi Primary School in Jambezi.
The 49-year-old Grade Seven teacher is under investigation and may face arrest for reportedly using biting as a form of punishment when his students failed to define a vocabulary word.
The shocking incident came to light when a 12-year-old girl reported the assault to the ZRP Jambezi. According to Inspector Glory Banda, spokesperson for the Matabeleland North provincial police, the complaint was filed on October 23, 2024. “At 12:00 hours, a student alleged she had been bitten by her teacher,” Banda confirmed.
Details from the police report reveal that on October 3, during a lesson, Ndlovu asked the students to define the word “dynamic.”
When they struggled to provide an answer, he reportedly became enraged and bit the girl on her right shoulder. This disturbing behavior continued, with reports indicating that all 23 students endured similar treatment.
Following the incident, police officers were dispatched to the school to locate other victims and collect statements. The girl who reported the incident has been referred to Victoria Falls Hospital for a medical examination.
The local community is in shock over the teacher’s erratic actions, questioning what could have driven him to such behavior.
Some community members speculate that Ndlovu may be experiencing a psychological breakdown, while others express concerns about possible “demonic possession” or “Satanism.”
As the investigation unfolds, parents and guardians are left grappling with the implications of this incident on their children’s safety and well-being in the educational environment. The school has yet to release a statement regarding the situation.
