Over 3,000 South African Couples Tie the Knot at Grand Easter Mass Wedding—Some Men Marry Multiple Wives – Joy and jubilation filled the air at Kanana City in Heidelberg as the International Pentecost Holiness Church (IPHC) hosted one of the world’s largest mass weddings on Easter Sunday.
Over 3,000 couples, dressed in elegant white and traditional attire, exchanged vows in a spectacular ceremony that saw some grooms marrying more than one wife.
Among those who stood out was Wonga Dlamini, who married his two partners, Lindiwe and Keabetswe, in front of a cheering crowd.

“This is a dream come true. I’ve always believed love can flourish in a polygamous union if there’s honesty. Now I’ve made it official with both women I love,” said Dlamini, flanked by his beaming brides.
His wife Lindiwe echoed his sentiments.
“People see polygamy as strange, but to us it’s unity. We support each other, and our children will grow up in a home full of love,” she said. Keabetswe added, “Love doesn’t divide—it multiplies. We prayed for this moment together.”
Another participant, IPHC member Sello Mabena, was marrying his third wife. “This is not just about marriage—it’s about legacy. Our family is expanding, and our children are witnessing commitment and tradition,” he said proudly.
IPHC spokesperson Priest Thabo Ndala hailed the event as historic.
“This is the largest mass wedding in the church’s history. We’ve outdone our 2023 milestone where 800 couples wed. This time, over 3,000 marriages were officiated,” he told IOL.
Ndala stressed that the church thoroughly prepares members for marriage, especially in polygamous cases.
“We require counseling sessions, and any man marrying more than one wife must prove he can support them both emotionally and materially—including ensuring each woman has her own home.”
He also emphasized that polygamy within the church reflects both cultural heritage and spiritual unity.
“Polygamy has long been a part of African tradition, and our church recognizes and embraces that. These unions are entered with full consent and mutual respect.”
