Nyanga man sentenced for stealing 7 bags of maize from own parents

NYANGA – A 44-year-old Matsapa village man was sentenced to 210 hours of community service for stealing seven 50kg bags of maize from his parents with intent to sell it in the local market.
Nyamagwande Fungai was arraigned before the Nyanga Magistrates Court on theft charges.
The State alleges that on November 4, 2024, around 0900 hours, the accused’s mother visited the storeroom where their maize was kept and discovered that seven 50kg bags of maize were missing.
Upon discovery, she alerted her husband, the accused’s father who subsequently tracked the wheelbarrow used to transport the bags and followed footprints from the storeroom to a nearby grinding mill.
Arriving at the grinding mill, the complainant recovered his stolen wheelbarrow and inquired about its presence. However, mill staff revealed that Nyamagwande had brought it there to sell maize.
The complainant filed a police report, prompting the arrest of the accused but the seven bags of stolen maize were not recovered.
