A male student from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) was discovered dead in his room yesterday at the Bulawayo Students Accommodation Complex (BSAC), adjacent to the university’s main campus along Bulawayo-Gwanda Road.
The body, found in an advanced state of decomposition, has sparked a police investigation.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is probing the incident, with the cause of death still undetermined. Authorities are yet to conduct an autopsy to establish both the cause and time of death.
According to witnesses, the room was locked from the inside when the body was found.
A viral video circulating on social media shows ZRP officers and university staff wearing masks to shield themselves from the overpowering odor as they placed the body in a metal coffin and loaded it into a police pickup truck.
Bystanders, some standing on hostel balconies, watched in shock as the grim scene unfolded.
The discovery has sent shockwaves through the university community, with more details expected to emerge once the investigation and autopsy are complete.
