Nollyhood Actor Alexx Ekubo Dies at 40 After Cancer Battle – The Nigerian film industry has been plunged into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor and entertainer Alexx Ekubo, who reportedly passed away at the age of 40 after battling cancer.
According to reports, the actor died on Monday, 11 May 2026, following a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed on Tuesday by close associates and stakeholders within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Family sources revealed that the celebrated actor had been battling cancer for some time, a situation that reportedly contributed to his extended absence from social media and the public spotlight, raising concern among fans in recent months.

Several prominent Nollywood personalities have since paid tribute to the late actor. Actress Funke Akindele expressed her grief on Instagram, revealing that she had recently attempted to contact him. Fellow actor Bolanle Ninalowo and veteran actress Kate Henshaw also shared emotional messages mourning his passing.
The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, said he was still struggling to come to terms with the devastating news.
Born in Arochukwu, Abia State, Alexx Ekubo rose to prominence after emerging first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition. He later cemented his place among Nollywood’s leading actors through standout performances in several romantic comedies and drama productions, including the blockbuster film Weekend Getaway.
In 2020, the late actor received international recognition after being named among the United Nations’ Most Influential People of African Descent Under 40 in honour of his contribution to entertainment and social development.
