NlGERIA : Violent Attacks Claim Lives, Displace Residents In Zamfara State

NIGERIA – A Series of violent attacks in Zamfara State between Thursday and earlier today has resulted in several deaths, injuries and mass displacement.
Suspected armed bandits targeted villages in Talata-Mafara, Bukkuyum, and Kaura-Namoda Local Government Areas (LGAs), according to a post shared earlier today by Zagazola Makama, a renowned security analyst, on Twitter (X).
The violence began in Talata-Mafara LGA on Thursday morning, where attackers stormed a Fulani settlement in Tudun-Biri village at around 10:30 a.m.,setting houses ablaze.
Witnesses reported that the assailants arrived in large numbers, torching huts and properties, which forced residents to flee for safety.
Amid the chaos, one person was killed, while many others sought refuge in nearby villages.
Later that evening, the attacks intensified as gunmen launched an assault on a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) camp in Gurusu, Bukkuyum LGA. The CJTF operatives responded with strong resistance, leading to a prolonged gun battle.
Despite their efforts, three CJTF members and three civilians lost their lives in the confrontation. According to local security sources, four CJTF members were injured, while one was abducted.
The assailants eventually retreated into the forest, leaving the community on edge.
The violence did not stop there. At midnight on Friday, another attack occurred in Gidan Fulani village, Kaura-Namoda LGA, where armed men raided the village.
They fired warning shots to intimidate residents before rustling an unspecified number of cattle.
Efforts are now underway by security forces to track down the attackers and recover the stolen livestock.
As of now, the Zamfara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
