Nketa Men Nabbed In US$2,400 House Looting Spree

BULAWAYO – Two men from Nketa 9 in Bulawayo have been arrested for allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and stealing household property worth US$2,400, according to police.
The suspects, identified as Arise Moyo (29) and Joseph Panashe Hove (27), reportedly carried out the break-ins over two consecutive nights — 4 and 5 July — between 6p.m and 8 p.m.
Prosecutor Josephine Gurazhira told the court that the pair forced entry into Nomsa Munoriarwa’s residence and looted a range of household items.
These included a Defy deep freezer, black four-plate gas stove, two gas tanks, a 32-inch and 42-inch television, an Open View decoder, along with groceries and toiletries.
Investigations indicate that the suspects sold most of the stolen goods, with only US$700 worth of property recovered during police operations.
Appearing before Tredgold Magistrate Evia Matura, the suspects denied all charges.
Prosecutor Gurazhira revealed that Moyo is a repeat offender, urging the court to impose a firm sentence to deter future cases of unlawful entry and theft.
The suspects were remanded in custody until 22 July, pending further proceedings.
The case underscores the growing threat of organised residential break-ins in urban Bulawayo and has sparked fresh calls for community vigilance.
As Moyo and Hove await their next court appearance, the spotlight remains on swift justice and the consequences facing repeat offenders.
