Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci to Attempt Guinness World Record for Largest Pot of Jollof Rice

Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci to Attempt Guinness World Record for Largest Pot of Jollof Rice – Renowned Nigerian culinary professional and former Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has announced her next major culinary endeavour—an attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.

This announcement comes nearly two years after Baci captured global attention by completing the world’s longest cooking marathon in 2023.

The upcoming event is scheduled for 12 September 2025, and preparations are already underway.

In a statement shared via her official Instagram platform, Baci revealed that the pot intended for the feat will measure 6 metres by 6 metres wide, symbolising the scale and ambition behind the initiative.

“Almost two years ago, I had the dream to cook the largest pot of jollof rice ever made. And now, with @ginonaija and the support of many, that dream is becoming a reality,” she wrote.

The event aims not only to break records but also to celebrate African cuisine—particularly the globally loved West African jollof rice—on an international platform.

It is worth noting that Hilda Baci lost her previous Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon to Irish chef Alan Fisher in November 2023. Fisher completed an uninterrupted 119 hours and 57 minutes of cooking at his restaurant in Japan.

Despite this, Baci remains a respected figure in the culinary world and continues to inspire many across Africa and beyond. “I’m still a record holder in spirit and history,” she remarked following the loss of her title.

More details about the September attempt, including venue and participation opportunities, are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
