Nigerian Billionaire Abdul Samad Rabiu Rewards Loyalty With US$20.7 Million Employee Payout

Nigerian Billionaire Abdul Samad Rabiu Rewards Loyalty With US$20.7 Million Employee Payout – Nigerian billionaire and BUA Group founder Abdul Samad Rabiu has once again drawn continental attention after approving a N30 billion (approximately US$20.7 million) cash reward package for long-serving employees.

The payouts were announced at the BUA Night of Excellence Long Service Awards held on December 13, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. The annual ceremony recognises loyalty and long-term service across the conglomerate’s various subsidiaries.

At the event, five employees received N1 billion each, while another five were awarded N500 million. Several others received N100 million, with dozens more taking home amounts ranging between N5 million and N20 million.

The gesture follows a series of employee-focused initiatives by Rabiu. In February 2024, amid Nigeria’s economic challenges and rising inflation, he approved a 50 percent salary increase for both permanent and contract staff.

In 2021, Rabiu also allocated a N2 billion share bonus from his personal holdings to BUA Cement employees who helped the company remain profitable during the COVID-19 pandemic.

These actions have strengthened BUA Group’s reputation as one of Africa’s most employee-friendly corporations, with Rabiu’s leadership style emphasising tangible rewards over symbolic gestures.
