New York Mom Delivers Record-Breaking 5.9 kg Baby

New York Mom Delivers Record-Breaking 5.9 kg Baby – A mother in upstate New York gave birth to a record-breaking baby boy last month.

Terrica and Shawn welcomed their son, Shawn Jr., on January 31 at Cayuga Medical Center, weighing an astonishing 13 pounds — the largest baby ever born at the Ithaca hospital.

“We expected a big baby, but not this huge,” said Terrica, a mother of four. Shawn Jr. already requires 3- to 6-month-old clothes and diapers, making him look more like a three-month-old newborn.

The hospital shared a heartwarming photo on Facebook showing Shawn Jr. beside 4-pound Margot, born the same day to parents Chloe and Victor.

Chloe said the contrast made welcoming her tiny baby “even sweeter” and thanked hospital staff for their care.

Robyn Torgalski, System Director of Maternal Child Health at Centralus Health, said: “These births remind us that every baby and birth story is unique.

Whether a newborn weighs four pounds or thirteen, our teams are ready to provide the best care for both baby and family.”

For context, the heaviest baby on record weighed 22 pounds and was born in Italy in 1955.
