Nephew of Government Minister to Appear in Court for Broadcaster’s Death

The Zimbabwe media sector has been rocked by the death of 45-year-old Cordelia Masalethulini, a well-known broadcaster, writer, and actress.
Fungai Quintone Tawengwa, a 46-year-old man from Greystone Park who happens to be the boyfriend of the late broadcaster, was arrested on Monday for the suspected murder of his girlfriend, Cordelia Masalethulini.
Fungai, is also the nephew of Charles Tawengwa, a government minister. He scheduled to appear in court today.
Her body was found partially clothed along Domboshava Road in Borrowdale. A security guard initially thought he witnessed a hit-and-run and called the police.
However, officers believed that foul play was involved once they arrived at the scene.
Local residents reported that Fungai and Cordelia had a loud argument just a day before her body was discovered. The couple had spent Sunday together, dining and drinking at Helensvale Shopping Centre, drawing attention from onlookers.
A nearby resident recounted, “Around 8 p.m., they decided to go to Domboshava but ended up at one of Fungai’s friend’s homes in Borrowdale. They had a disagreement, and Cordelia refused to go home with him. Eventually, they left together.”
Investigators found bloodstains in a room at the friend’s house, raising further questions about what led to Cordelia’s death.
According to H-metro, the National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi was unavailable for comment, sources indicated that the case has been officially reported to the Borrowdale Police Station and is under active investigation.
Additionally, police investigations have revealed other details: Fungai was reportedly seen with a visible injury on his hand, which he attributed to a bicycle accident.
This injury is now a point of interest for detectives looking into the circumstances surrounding Cordelia’s death. Investigators are also reviewing security footage from the area to gather more evidence.
