“My Arrest as a Celebrity Shows that No One is Above the Law,” says T-Gonzi

Musician Ti-Gonzi, who is currently in prison, stated that his arrest and sentencing prove that “no one is above the law.”
Speaking from Harare Central Prison, where he is one of 2,260 inmates, he shared his thoughts as other prisoners were released under a Presidential Amnesty.
Ti-Gonzi is serving an eight-month sentence due to reckless driving and possession of illegal drugs, including Broncleer syrup and marijuana.
His arrest took place on February 2 after he ran a red light and ignored police instructions.
“My arrest as a celebrity shows that no one is above the law,” he said.
He praised law enforcement and the judiciary, saying, “I commend our police officers and the judiciary for their diligent work.”
He also recognized his own mistakes, admitting, “I was not licensed to drive and the traffic police were just doing their job, as was the judiciary.”
Ti-Gonzi believes that a prison sentence can be a chance to learn and improve. He stated, “I’ve come to understand that a prison sentence is not just punishment, it’s an opportunity to correct one’s wrongdoings.”
He emphasized the importance of fairness in the justice system, saying, “If our judiciary continues to perform their duties without fear or favour, we can all learn from our mistakes.”
Today, he observed other inmates benefiting from the Presidential Amnesty and expressed his gratitude: “I thank the President for offering inmates an opportunity to contribute positively to our country.” – H-metro
