Mwenezi Family appeals for Aid after daughter lost leg to crocodile attack
MWENEZI – A Mwenezi family is appealing for financial assistance after their 17-year-old daughter lost her left leg in a crocodile attack, leaving them struggling to pay a staggering US$300 weekly medical bill.
Patience, a talented Form Three pupil and captain of Chimombe 1 Secondary School girls’ soccer team underwent a leg amputation at Parirenyatwa Hospital after surviving a terrifying crocodile attack.
In an exclusive interview with AfroGazette News, Michael Mangena,Sibanda’s uncle revealed the harrowing details of her ordeal.
“Patience’s weekend visit to her parents took a terrifying turn when a crocodile attacked her while she was washing clothes in the Mwenezi River. She desperately held onto a river fence for dear life until bystanders rescued her.”
“After initial treatment at Neshuro Hospital, Patience was transferred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital where doctors discovered her leg was critically injured.”
“Due to the severity of her condition, she was transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital where she underwent emergency amputation and intestinal surgery which also revealed kidney damage,” he said.
Mangena criticized Billy Rautenbach whose crocodile farm borders the Mwenezi River where Patience was attacked for refusing aid and claiming the crocodile was not from his facility.
“We reached out to Mr. Rautenbach for financial support, but he declined. Now, we appeal to others’ generosity – every dollar counts, no matter how small,” Mangena pleaded.
