Mwene WeBhawa’ Joke Backfires — Masvingo Woman In Hot Soup Over Alleged S€x With 12-Year-Old

MASVINGO – What began as a viral TikTok joke warning bar owners—“Mwene weBhawa”—against entertaining minors has taken a disturbing turn in Masvingo, where a 33-year-old woman allegedly engaged in s€xu@l activity with a 12-year-old boy she met inside a bar.
The accused, Madeline Mangezi, reportedly offered the minor alcohol at Yeukai Bottlestore on the night of September 25, 2025, before driving him to a secluded area where the act allegedly occurred.
According to police reports, Mangezi was drinking beer at around 2000 hours when she encountered the complainant, who was watching football on television inside the same establishment.
The accused allegedly bought the complainant beer, and the two began drinking together.
It is alleged that Mangezi later asked the complainant to engage in s€xu@l intercourse “for a short time,” to which he agreed, despite being legally incapable of giving consent due to his age.
The pair then drove to a bushy area in Target Kopje, where the act allegedly occurred once, without protection.
After the encounter, Mangezi reportedly demanded US$10 from the complainant as payment.
The two spent the night in Mangezi’s vehicle, and she dropped the complainant off at Mbudzi Business Centre the following morning.
The complainant returned home around 1700 hours on the same day.
Upon being questioned by his mother, he revealed what had happened, prompting her to file a police report.
The minor was referred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for medical examination, and investigations were launched immediately.
The incident has triggered public outrage, especially in light of the recent TikTok video that went viral across Zimbabwe, in which a man warned bar owners—referred to as “Mwene weBhawa”—that they would be arrested for allowing minors into their premises.
While the clip was widely circulated as a joke, this case has exposed the serious consequences of failing to enforce age restrictions in drinking spots.
According to TellZim, the case has raised alarm over minors frequenting adult venues and the failure by bar operators to enforce age restrictions.
Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities have not yet confirmed whether charges will also be laid against the bar owner for unlawfully allowing a minor into the premises.
As the nation laughs at Mwene weBhawa jokes, Masvingo is mourning a child’s innocence. Who’s next?
