Mutasa Man Takes Own Life After Argument With Wife Over Savings, Leaves Burial Note

A 35-year-old man from Gwiriri Village in Honde Valley, Mutasa, tragically took his own life last Friday following a domestic dispute with his wife over the use of family savings.
The deceased, George Munyuki, was discovered hanging in his bedroom the next morning, having left behind a suicide note with instructions for his burial.
Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed that the tragedy followed a heated disagreement between Munyuki and his wife, Violet Nyabawa (25), during their walk home from a nearby shopping centre.
The argument reportedly centered on accusations of reckless spending, which escalated tensions between the couple.
After the confrontation, Nyabawa chose not to return home and instead spent the night at a neighbour’s house.
When she returned the following morning around 7am, she found the main door locked from the inside and was unable to enter the house.
She then contacted Munyuki’s friend, Martin Mambondiyani (43), who managed to open a window and gain access to the house.
Upon entering the bedroom, Nyabawa discovered Munyuki hanging from a burglar bar, prompting an immediate call to the police.
A suicide note was recovered at the scene, in which Munyuki instructed his wife to sell their rabbits and use the money to transport his body to his rural homestead.
“Tengesa tsuro undiendese kumusha kwangu,” the note read.
His body was later taken to Bonda Mission Hospital mortuary.
Police officers from ZRP Ruda attended the scene and launched an investigation into the matter.
The Mirror reported that the incident has left the local community in shock, with residents calling for increased awareness around mental health and peaceful conflict resolution within families.
