Mutare City Council Denies Reports of Tsikidzi Infestation in Sakubva

Mutare City Council has dismissed widely circulated social media claims alleging Tsikidzi (bedbug) outbreak in Sakubva suburb.

The local authority, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, refuted reports suggesting the area was battling an infestation, stating that such claims were false and alarmist.

Town Clerk Blessing Chafesuka clarified that while some areas have previously struggled with Tsikidzi, this does not indicate a new outbreak.

He emphasized that routine fumigation efforts have been ongoing to address such issues.

“This is misinformation. Yes, certain areas have had Tsikidzi challenges in the past, but we have consistently conducted fumigation to manage the situation.

Following recent concerns in Harare, we have instructed our health department to intensify fumigation as a preventive measure,” Chafesuka stated.

According to Diamond FM Zim, the social media claims originated from statements attributed to Bako Flea Market’s chairperson.

City officials stress that there is no cause for alarm, reassuring residents that sanitation and public health measures remain in place.

Mutare City Council urges residents to rely on official health updates instead of unverified online reports that could cause unnecessary panic.

The council maintains that it is actively monitoring health risks and will continue implementing measures to prevent pest infestations in affected areas.
