Mukuru Employee in Rusape Steals Over US$23,000 & Disappears – A Mukuru employee in Rusape, Jasper Pondo (31), is on the run after allegedly stealing US$23,393 and R9,500 from a company safe. Police have launched a manhunt for him.

According to Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, Pondo stole the money after it was delivered by Fawcett Security Company in March 2025.

The theft came to light when Eunia Masanhi (40) from N. Richards noticed that Pondo was turning away customers who came to collect money, directing them to other Mukuru branches in Rusape. This led to a decline in business at the branch.

Suspicious of his actions, Masanhi reported the matter to Mukuru supervisor Christopher Govanai, who then informed Fawcett Security officials in Rusape. Investigations were launched on March 25, 2025.

Pondo was found at work during the probe but vanished after stepping out of the office, pretending to answer a phone call.

When Fawcett Security officers opened the money safe, they found it empty. The case was immediately reported to ZRP Rusape Central.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka has urged members of the public with any information on Pondo’s whereabouts to report to their nearest police station.
