MudiwaHood Fires Back at Hopewell Chin’ono: “I’m a Tax-Compliant, Self-Made Entrepreneur”

By Loyd Matare

In a scathing response to Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, musician-turned-entrepreneur MudiwaHood has clapped back, defending his business acumen and tax compliance.

The drama unfolded on X, where Chin’ono had challenged MudiwaHood to disclose his tax payments, insinuating that his success was largely due to political connections.

Chin’ono boasted about paying $47,000 in taxes in the last financial year, daring MudiwaHood to reveal his own tax records.

MudiwaHood, however, refused to take the bait, citing the confidentiality of tax information.

Instead, he offered to take Chin’ono on a tour of his businesses, saying, “I am willing to take you through some of my businesses… and if possible, we go see yours too.”

The entrepreneur, known for his motivational speeches and business seminars, emphasized his self-made status.

“I believe in President ED Mnangagwa unapologetically. He is the smartest and most intelligent politician I have studied,” Mudiwa said.

MudiwaHood also highlighted his academic achievements, including a master’s degree, and his experience as a senior manager at a bank.

Chin’ono’s initial salvo had sparked a heated debate, with some users accusing MudiwaHood of being arrogant and others praising his confidence.

The journalist’s criticism was seen by some as an attempt to discredit MudiwaHood’s success and inspire young people to question his motives.

MudiwaHood’s response, however, has been widely praised for its clarity and conviction.

As one user commented, “MudiwaHood has shown that he’s not only a successful entrepreneur but also a master of words.”

The exchange has sparked a wider conversation about the role of entrepreneurship, politics, and social media in Zimbabwe.

As MudiwaHood succinctly put it, “My journey is traceable… I have been a voice that ‘it is possible’ and I am indeed a ghetto dream.”
