Mpofu, Chimombe Jailed in US$7 Million Goat Scheme Fraud

High Court judge Pisirayi Kwenda has sentenced Moses Mpofu to an effective 15 years in prison and Mike Chimombe to an effective 12 years after the pair were convicted of defrauding the State of more than US$7 million in the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme.

Mpofu was sentenced to 22 years, with seven years suspended three years on condition of good behaviour and four years on condition of restitution.

Chimombe received a 17-year jail term, with five years suspended, three on condition of good behaviour and two tied to restitution.

Both Mpofu and Chimombe have since filed notice to appeal against their convictions and sentences.
