Mozambican Traditional Healer Appears in South African Court Over Possession of Human V@gina– A 26-year-old traditional healer from Mozambique, Aizeque Zacaria Cumbuia, appeared before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on 15 August 2025 in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation.

Cumbuia was arrested on 7 August following a police operation linked to a serious case under investigation in Brits, South Africa.

Authorities report that during the course of their investigation, they discovered body parts including a female private part believed to be connected to the case at a property where Cumbuia practised as a sangoma (traditional healer).

According to the South African Police Service, the discovery raised significant concern and led to further legal scrutiny.

“We are treating this case with the seriousness it deserves,” said a police spokesperson.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that Cumbuia may face several charges, including contravening South Africa’s Immigration Act.

It is alleged that he may have been residing in the country without proper documentation.

The case is believed to be linked to the death of a 20-year-old South African woman from 2023.

It is further alleged that the victim may have been deceived under false pretenses prior to the incident.

Two additional suspects, including another traditional healer, have been arrested in connection with the case as investigations continue.

The matter has been postponed to 28 August 2025 for a formal bail application.

The state has indicated it will oppose bail, citing the seriousness of the case and the ongoing nature of the investigation.

A representative from the prosecution noted, “Given the complexity of the case and the severity of the charges, we believe it is in the public interest that the accused remains in custody while investigations proceed.”
