Mother and Daughter Fight Over Husband in Court

A woman has taken her daughter’s husband while she was pregnant, and the two have started a new life together in a rural area. This family feud has now reached the Harare Civil Court.
Ethel Mupoperi is accused of taking her daughter Munyaradzi’s husband. Munyaradzi, her only child, claims she will never forgive her mother for this betrayal.
“She took my husband while I was pregnant, and they began a new life in the countryside,” Munyaradzi said. “After they left, I started building on a piece of land bought by my husband, which she is now claiming as hers. Since she took my man, we are now co-wives, and everything feels shared. She should suffer as I did when she took him away.”
In court, Ethel claimed she has faced much hardship from her daughter, accusing her of verbal and emotional abuse.
Ethel stated, “My daughter disrespects me and makes me pay for my mistakes. She told me to leave my home, insisting she is the rightful heir to the house. She insults me, blaming me for taking her husband. Despite being my only child, she doesn’t treat me with respect. I own the property she claims is hers.”
Ethel requested that the court address her daughter’s behavior and maintain peace between them. Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted a peace order against Munyaradzi.
