Mother Allegedly Killed Twin Babies Over Non-Stop Crying

INDIA – Shivangi Saklani (20) was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing her six-month-old twin daughters, who reportedly cried incessantly, depriving her of rest and sleep.
Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobhal stated that Shivangi allegedly tried to silence the crying twins by pressing them with a blanket.
When that failed, she reportedly strangled them with a scarf.
On March 6, Shivangi brought her daughters to Devbhoomi Hospital in Ranipur, claiming they had been crying continuously. However, doctors declared the twins dead on arrival.
The following day, their father, Mahesh Saklani, filed a complaint, expressing suspicion over the circumstances of their deaths.
As the investigation progressed, it emerged that Shivangi had been struggling to cope with the twins’ constant crying.
Police officials revealed that she had been severely sleep-deprived and lacked support from her family, which allegedly exacerbated her frustration.
The overwhelming stress and lack of assistance appeared to have taken a devastating toll on Shivangi. Initially, she claimed to have found her daughters unconscious upon returning home.
However, inconsistencies in her statement surfaced during further investigation.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed under Section 103(1) (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Jwalapur police station.
Local residents have since highlighted the critical need to support new mothers, ensuring they have adequate resources to navigate the challenges of parenthood.
