President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday officially opened the Midlands Park Development in Zvishavane, describing it as a flagship multi-million-dollar investment under the Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF).

The mixed-use project, which includes residential housing and student accommodation facilities worth US$37.7 million, was completed within 18 months and is set to benefit more than 300 families and 750 students.

“It is my singular honour and privilege to join you today here in Zvishavane to commission the Midlands Park Development, which is one of the flagship multimillion-dollar investment projects being undertaken under the Public Service Pension Fund,” Mnangagwa said at the ceremony.

The President commended the Public Service Commission and its partners for what he termed “unity of purpose and prudent use of resources,” adding that the project symbolised progress under the government’s National Development Strategy.

“The commissioning of these state-of-the-art accommodation facilities stands as a symbol of what we can achieve working together as a united and peace-loving people towards the modernisation of our beloved motherland,” he said.

Mnangagwa also highlighted the economic impact of the development, noting that more than 3,000 jobs were created during its construction, while the local community benefited from upgraded water, sanitation, and road infrastructure.

He said the PSPF had grown from a seed capital of US$4.5 million to a current value of about US$650 million, and urged the Fund’s performance model to be replicated across other provinces and districts.

“As the Second Republic, we shall continue to decisively embrace the future where strategic investments, national solidarity and home-grown solutions propel us into a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income economy,” Mnangagwa said.

The official opening coincided with the Munhumutapa Day commemorations as well as Mnangagwa’s birthday.
