Missing Chitungwiza Teacher Found Dead in Gutu
The decomposing body of Stella Mushangidze Chidzenga, a teacher from Chitungwiza who went missing during the second term school holiday, has been discovered in Gutu.
Chidzenga was reported missing in August, prompting the circulation of “Missing Person” flyers across various WhatsApp groups.
Her uncle broke the news, indicating that her death might be linked to ritualistic murder practices. Chidzenga, a Grade 2 teacher at Shingayi Government Primary School in St. Mary’s, was remembered fondly by her colleagues.
A somber atmosphere enveloped the school as staff prepared to visit Chidzenga’s home to offer condolences. She lived in Ushewokunze with her two children: a daughter in her early 20s and a son in Grade 6.
Conflicting accounts have emerged about her disappearance. One version suggests she left home to seek medical attention in Harare’s CBD.
While returning, she reportedly called one of her children to wait for her at a nearby bus stop, but she never made it home.
According to her uncle, a young herdboy in Gutu discovered the body and alerted his father, who then informed neighbors and the local headman. Initially, the body was covered with tree branches while a police report was filed.
The next day, police found the remains a short distance from the original site. The body parts were taken to a local mortuary, along with clothing items, including a mobile phone.
Family members have returned to Harare to arrange the funeral.
