Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu Convicted of Fraud, Sentencing Set for October 31

Businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu were found guilty of fraud and are now waiting to be sentenced.

High Court Judge Justice Pisirayi Kwenda confirmed that the prosecution proved their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Chimombe and Mpofu ran a fraudulent scheme that cheated the government out of more than $7 million. They manipulated a government tender meant for the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme, which aimed to help rural communities by distributing goats.

To secure the tender, they allegedly used a company called Blackdeck Pvt Ltd as a front. They submitted fake tax clearance documents from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority and forged compliance certificates from the National Social Security Authority, which were necessary for the tender application.

The two men will learn their fate at a pre-sentencing hearing scheduled for October 31.
