Tito Jackson, an original member of the Jackson 5 and brother of the late Michael Jackson, has died at the age of 70. The official cause of death has not been disclosed.
Tito performed with his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael, who passed away in 2009. Steve Manning, a longtime family friend and former manager, confirmed the news after he recently traveled to Munich for a performance.
In an emotional Instagram post, Tito’s three sons—Taj, Taryll, and TJ—expressed their heartbreak, stating, “Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.”
The Jackson 5, formed in 1964, produced hits like “ABC” and “I Want You Back,” selling over 150 million records worldwide. The Hollywood Walk of Fame honored them with a star in 1980, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted them in 1997.
Days before his death, Tito shared a message from a memorial for Michael in Munich. He had performed in Germany on September 10 and participated in a UK music festival shortly before that.
Tito leaves behind brothers Jackie, Jermaine, and Marlon, and sisters Janet and La Toya. He had a solo blues career starting in 2003 and was the last sibling to chart a solo single with his 2016 hit “Get It Baby.” In 2019, he toured with Jackie, Jermaine, and Marlon as The Jacksons.
