Messi to Unveil 21-Metre Statue on India “GOAT Tour”

Messi to Unveil 21-Metre Statue on India “GOAT Tour” – Argentina football icon Lionel Messi is set to virtually unveil a towering 21-metre statue of himself in Kolkata, India, on Saturday as part of his highly anticipated three-day “GOAT Tour,” which has already sent fans into a frenzy across the country.
The iron monument—depicting Messi lifting the World Cup trophy—will be revealed remotely due to security concerns.

The tour will cover four major Indian cities, and reports suggest Messi may also meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In Kolkata, organisers have created a vibrant “Hola Messi” fan zone featuring a life-sized replica of Messi seated on a throne, along with a recreated version of his Miami home complete with mannequins of his family members.
Local football enthusiast Samir Nandy said finally seeing Messi in India feels surreal.
“Legends aren’t built on success alone. His resilience made me believe in him,” said Nandy, 64.
“This statue is a fitting honour.”
Lead sculptor Monti Paul told AFP the monument was completed in just 40 days.
“It’s a matter of great pride to build Messi’s sculpture. This is the tallest statue I’ve ever made,” he said.
During the whirlwind tour, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is also expected to meet Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly.
Ahead of his visit, Messi expressed excitement about returning to India for the first time since 2011.
“India is a very special country, and I have great memories from my time there 14 years ago—the fans were fantastic,” Messi said. “India is a passionate football nation, and I look forward to meeting a new generation of fans and sharing the love of this beautiful game.”
Messi is set to play a brief friendly match in Kolkata before heading to Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi. In Hyderabad, he will attend a concert held in his honour and feature in another friendly encounter.
The Inter Miami star arrives on the back of winning his second consecutive MLS Most Valuable Player award after leading the club to a historic title and topping the scoring charts. Messi is also preparing to lead Argentina as they defend their World Cup crown in North America next year.
