Meet the Caps United fan who sh0cked netizens by joining Scottland FC – Richard “CheMhofela” Sande, a well-known Caps United fan, has made a surprising switch to newly promoted Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Scottland FC.

The 44-year-old joined the Mabvuku-based club on what he calls a “voluntary transfer,” citing financial reasons.

“Passion doesn’t pay the bills,” Sande remarked, explaining his unexpected move away from Caps United, a club he has passionately supported for years.

Scottland FC, owned by gold dealer and Zanu PF politician Scott Sakupwanya, is making waves in its debut PSL season.

The club secured promotion from the Northern Region Division One League and boasts major sponsors, including Sakunda Holdings, owned by petroleum mogul Kudakwashe Tagwirei, and IMC Communications, led by businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

In an effort to build a competitive squad, Scottland has also signed high-profile players like Khama Billiat and Walter Musona.

Sande’s loyalty to Caps United was widely recognized. In 2023, club owner Farai Jere named him Caps United’s Fan of the Year.

He also finished as the first runner-up in the Castle Lager Fan of the Year competition last year. As part of his prize, he walked away with $250, a year’s supply of Castle Lager, a PSL season pass, a camping chair, and a cooler box.

Despite his deep-rooted love for Makepekepe, Sande’s decision to move on seems to have been validated on the field.

Yesterday, Scottland FC defeated Caps United 2-0 at Rufaro Stadium, marking a significant statement in their PSL campaign.

With his switch to Scottland, Sande joins a growing list of football personalities drawn by the club’s ambition and financial backing.
