Mbizo Man Dies After Explosive Detonates in Mouth in Gruesome Suspected Suicide

A 25-year-old man from Mbizo 9 in Kwekwe died in a horrific suspected suicide on Independence Day after allegedly placing a mining explosive in his mouth, which detonated and killed him instantly.

The deceased, identified as Talent Runi, was found dead in his room around midnight, with his teeth blown out and blood splattered across the floor and walls.

According to Midlands acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Fungai Ngawagare, the Zimbabwe Republic Police are investigating the incident as a suspected case of suicide.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms investigating a suspected suicide case in which a 25-year-old Mbizo man was found dead in his room with his teeth blown out and blood stains were all over,” said Asst Insp Ngawagare.

Authorities say Runi and his cousin, Tinotenda Tsvangira, had just returned to Kwekwe from their rural home in Gokwe earlier that day.

The two went separate ways, Runi heading home and Tsvangira elsewhere. Later in the afternoon, Tsvangira received a disturbing call from an aunt in Harare, alerting him that Runi had allegedly expressed suicidal thoughts.

Alarmed, Tsvangira rushed to their shared home in Mbizo.

When he found the doors locked from the inside, he forced his way in through a window only to discover his cousin’s lifeless body lying on the bed in a grisly scene.

Investigators are now working to determine how Runi accessed the mining explosives materials typically restricted due to their dangerous nature and what circumstances may have led him to carry out such a devastating act.

The incident has sparked shock and concern across the Mbizo community, fueling urgent conversations about mental health awareness and the alarming accessibility of industrial explosives in mining regions.
