Masvingo Man Kills Baby With Stone Meant for Ex-Lover

MASVINGO – A domestic dispute in Munangari Village, Chivi, took a tragic turn when a man attempted to attack his ex-girlfriend but missed and fatally struck a baby strapped to her back.
The suspect, 52-year-old Douglas Gwizangwe, was arrested following the incident on April 9, 2025.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident, stating that Gwizangwe threw a stone at his ex-girlfriend during an altercation.
Instead of hitting her, the stone struck the infant in the eye.
The baby was rushed to Chiredzi Hospital but later succumbed to injuries.
Meanwhile, police in Shurugwi are searching for Jimson Pikai Chimba Hlawu, who is wanted in connection with another murder case.
He allegedly stabbed an artisanal miner multiple times at Ash 16 Gold Mine on April 10, 2025.
New Zimbabwe reports that ZRP is appealing to the public for information that could lead to Hlawu’s arrest.
Authorities continue investigating both cases and urge communities to assist law enforcement in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
