Masvingo Man Battered With Hoe Handle Over Stepdaughter Dispute

MASVINGO – A man was hospitalised after his wife allegedly beat him with a hoe handle and strangled him — all because he asked where her teenage daughter had gone.
The woman, who already has a domestic violence conviction, is now back in court over a second alleged attack.
The incident occurred last Wednesday around 7pm in Mucheke, Masvingo.
Tagwirei Musara (42) had reportedly asked his wife, Lindiwe Mafa, about her 17-year-old daughter, whom he had not seen for two consecutive days.
The teenager, from Mafa’s previous marriage, lives with the couple in Micho area, Masvingo rural.
According to court proceedings, Mafa allegedly flew into a rage, grabbed a hoe handle, and struck Musara repeatedly across the body.
She is also accused of strangling him and leaving him with deep nail scratch wounds.
Musara later sought treatment at Masvingo Provincial Hospital.
The case is being heard before Masvingo Magistrate Caroline Tafira Nyoni.
Mafa denies the charges, claiming her husband sustained the injuries during a bar fight.
“We only quarreled. I did not assault him over the matter,” she told the court.
The Mirror reports that Mafa has a prior conviction for domestic violence against Musara — a detail highlighted by the prosecution, which argues the latest incident shows a pattern of abuse.
The case has reignited concern over repeat offenders and the handling of domestic violence in rural communities.
Prosecutor Nobunkosi Moyo is leading the case.
