Authorities confirmed the incident, stating: “We are investigating a case of robbery which occurred on 27 February 2025 at a company along Lytton Road, Workington. Five unknown suspects attacked a security guard who was on duty at the company before gaining entry into the offices where they stole US$120,400 cash. Anyone with information should report to the nearest police station.”

This latest robbery adds to a rising wave of armed heists across Zimbabwe, where criminals are increasingly targeting businesses and homes.

Many locals have resorted to keeping large sums of money in company safes or at home due to government policy changes affecting the currency and banking sector.

In response to the surge in robberies, police have taken a controversial hardline approach, including the use of summary executions of armed robbery suspects during encounters.

This tactic has sparked debate, with some supporting the crackdown while others question its legality and effectiveness in curbing crime.

Authorities continue to urge vigilance, as businesses and individuals remain prime targets for criminal gangs seeking quick cash.
