Manhunt Launched After Inmate Escapes Harare Central Prison – The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has launched a nationwide manhunt following the escape of an inmate from Harare Central Prison on Saturday afternoon.
The fugitive, identified as Jeffrey Jingura, is a Class B inmate who was serving a sentence for theft. ZPCS confirmed that Jingura escaped while working at the prison workshops, where he reportedly fled in a vehicle he was repairing.
ZPCS spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi confirmed the incident and appealed to members of the public for assistance.

“The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services wishes to inform the public of an incident involving an inmate who escaped from lawful custody,” said Ass-Comm Khanyezi.
“We assure the nation that investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
She added that the matter has been reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police and that one prison officer has since been arrested in connection with the escape.
“While incidents of this nature are regrettable, they are rare. ZPCS remains committed to maintaining a secure correctional environment and strengthening security systems,” she said.
Members of the public have been urged to report any information that may lead to Jingura’s recapture.
