Man sIapped with 18 years for raping Juvenile
ZVISHAVANE – A 37-year-old man, Norman Moyo Masocha, from Village 3 Sandiza, Chief Maranda, Mwenezi, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Zvishavane Regional Court for raping a 15-year-old girl in Mberengwa.
According to the prosecution, led by Moreblessing Chananda, the incident occurred on May 18, 2024, around 1630 hours, when the victim was walking home from school alone.
The court heard that Masocha, who was unknown to the victim, approached her and asked for her name and where she was going. The complainant and the accused person walked together for some distance until they reached Manhanzva mountain. When they reached the top of the mountain, Masocha dragged her into the bush and raped her once. During the act, he threatened to stab the victim with an okapi knife if she resisted or screamed.
After raping her, Masocha told the complainant not to disclose the matter to anyone.
The victim reported the incident to the police, and an identification parade was conducted, leading to Masocha’s arrest.
