Man Sentenced to Life for Killing Wife During Church Service
A 55-year-old man from Limpopo has been sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of his wife at a church service last year. The sentencing took place this week at the High Court in Thohoyandou.
Avhapfani Eric Mundalamo was convicted of murdering his 43-year-old wife, Patience Funanani Mbedzi, in Makonde Village.
The incident occurred on March 30, 2024, when Mundalamo followed his wife to the church. Armed with a gun, he entered the building and shot her in front of the congregation.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, reported that the police opened a murder investigation led by Constable Mmbengeni Clovis Mashamba. Mundalamo turned himself in the next day.
After nearly two years of investigation and court appearances, he was sentenced to life imprisonment and declared unfit to own a firearm. The local police expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision.
Last April, it was revealed that Mundalamo had appeared in court shortly after the crime, where he entered the church and fired multiple shots at his wife around 6 PM, leading to her death.
After the shooting, he fled the scene in a silver-grey Toyota Corolla. A manhunt was launched, but he later surrendered to authorities. IOL
