Man Sentenced for R@ping 16-Year-Old Cousin and Proposing to her After False Job Promise

A 38-year-old man from Chipinge has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the rape of his 16-year-old cousin.

The Chipinge Magistrate Court handed down the sentence, suspending three years for five years, leaving the man to serve an effective four years.

According to a report by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, on February 8, 2025, the offender approached the complainant, falsely claiming to have secured her a job as a domestic worker. He then lured her to his residence where they spent the night.

The following day, at approximately 9:00 PM, the man proposed a romantic relationship with the complainant, which she rejected. He then forcibly pushed her to the ground and raped her before sleeping in a separate room.

The next morning, the offender took the complainant to Vheneka village. During their journey, he again proposed love, and this time, the complainant accepted.

The two began cohabitating until April 8, 2025, when the complainant’s sister arrived in the village searching for her.

The complainant confided in her sister about the assault, leading to the filing of a police report and the subsequent arrest of the offender.
