Man Recruits Strangers to Rape His Wife
Dominique P, a 71-year-old man, is on trial in France for allegedly drugging and raping his wife over a decade, as well as orchestrating assaults by numerous other men.
The case has shocked the nation due to the scale of the alleged crimes.
The victim, now 72, was informed of the extensive abuse she suffered only in 2020 when police intervened. Prosecutors allege that Dominique P recruited strangers online to come to their home and sexually assault his wife while she was heavily sedated and often unaware of the abuse.
Authorities have identified at least 92 rapes involving 72 men, with 50 of these individuals charged and facing trial alongside Dominique P.
The investigation began after an incident in September 2020, when a security guard caught Dominique filming under the skirts of women in a shopping center.
A subsequent search of his computer revealed hundreds of images and videos, many depicting his wife in an unconscious state during the assaults. Reports suggest the abuse started in 2011.
Her lawyer, Antoine Camus, described the upcoming trial as “a horrible ordeal” for the victim, as she is set to view video evidence of the assaults for the first time. He emphasized the emotional toll it will take, stating that she will relive the traumatic experiences.
Dominique P has admitted to using powerful sedatives on his wife, including anxiety medications, and prosecutors allege he not only participated in the rapes but also filmed them while using degrading language to encourage the other men involved.
The trial is expected to last until December 20, 2024. The public nature of the proceedings has been a decision by the victim, who attended the opening day supported by her three children, rejecting the option for a closed trial.
