Man Narrowly Escapes Death After Attempting to Steal Electrical Equipment

A 41-year-old man from Mutoko suffered serious burns while trying to steal an electrical transformer and armored cables near All Souls Mission Hospital.
Gift Mawodza, from Kakomwe Village, is now receiving treatment at the same hospital where the incident occurred.
Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri, from the Criminal Investigations Department, is asking for help in locating Mawodza’s accomplices, Simbarashe Tungamirai and Paiben Muparo, who escaped the scene.
Inspector Muteweri emphasized that vandalizing public utilities harms the country’s progress and carries a mandatory ten-year prison sentence.
According to The Herald, on November 2, 2025, Mawodza and his accomplices targeted a ZETDC transformer near the hospital, intending to steal copper cables.
While they were at it, Mawodza was electrocuted, causing his partners to run away. Mawodza is expected to face court today.
